Michigan Wedding and Portrait Photographer – River Birch Lodge – Spring Weddings

Not a cloud in the sky as I pulled up the long driveway to the River Birch Lodge. Not a breeze either but hey, we don’t complain on wedding days!

I set my equipment down in the lobby and just marveled at the unique venue Becky and Darian had chosen for their wedding. Words can’t really describe the feeling you have when you walk inside… Cozy, yet HUGE – romantic, yet rustic – organic, yet elegant. And thats only the entryway! Ha!

Their ceremony was flawless, their family and friends were hilarious and the day flew by without a single glance at my watch. Time seemed to escape as I was caught up in friendly conversations. Laughter sprinkled through the crowd as various members of the wedding party showed off their quote, unquote MOVES on the dancefloor and as everyone retired inside for karaoke there was a sense of a ‘weekend getaway’ rather than a wedding and I think that’s what Darian and Becky had wanted all along.

Michigan Wedding and Portrait Photographer – Oakland County – Newborn Portraits

Little Alex was only 9 days old when we did his session and OH MY GOD!!! He smelled sooo good!!! OK, I do realize that this may sound creepy but I don’t know a single woman who isn’t overcome by the smell of a newborn! Ok, maybe one or two but they are in the minority.

There’s just so much hope and promise bundled up in those little onsies!!

Those little teeney tiny feet, that little nose, 10 perfect fingers and a mommy and daddy who are glowing with pride as they introduce their little miracle into the world. Newborn sessions are among my most favorite of all (and not just because I get to hold and cuddle with the babies… although thats a pretty big part of it!)  I love them because I get to be a part of a fleeting moment in time – those first days home with your baby fly by and those little fingers turn into toddler hands to hold while you run through the playground before you know it!

I know – my babies just turned 5 and 9!

Michigan Wedding and Portrait Photography – 3 Month Portraits

I was so excited to see an email from Katie asking me to take pictures of her little John. I have worked with Katie and her family for years on various projects and couldn’t wait to meet her little guy.

John was full of laughs and drool! After shooting baby portraits for as long as I have you come to predict how little ones will act at different milestones. Every stage they’re learning or doing something new…. teething and drooling, laughing and giggling, exploring and thoughtful and of course…. sleepy!!

Being a model really takes a lot out of babies and when they fall asleep, well, thats when the real fun begins.. Katie and I had so much fun dressing up John and chatting away as he slept and I took pictures! Sometimes I leave forgetting that this is actually my job… It just feels like friends getting together sometimes! Thank you to whoever hands out careers… I feel very blessed to do what I love every single day and meet so many little faces (and smooch them!!)

Michigan Wedding Photography – Ann Arbor, Mi

I shot Dorothy and Justin’s wedding back in March and lets just say March isn’t Michigan’s finest month! I’d have to say March is the worst month, there I said it… I don’t even care if March’s feelings are hurt. I’m a photographer and frankly if March didn’t exist I wouldn’t be the least bit upset.

Well, I take that back – Everyone loves green beer and without March that would just be weird.

Where was I going with this? Oh yeah… Dorothy and Justin decided to book an after – the – wedding portrait session to have some fun outdoors! And that we did! Muggy, yes — Mosquitos — a few but beautiful skies and being able to shoot without gloves on made it all worth while!!! Michigan doesn’t really have a good handle on any of it’s weather but I’d definitely take a June day over a March day!
